Gila County Detention Officers Recognized at State Conference


Gila County Sheriff Adam Shepherd announces that three Detention Officers and one Medical Assistant were recognized at the recent Arizona Detention Association Conference in Prescott.

Administrative Sergeant Christina Duarte was named “Supervisor of the Year.” Detention Officer Jacob Martin was honored as the “Rookie of the Year.” And Medical Assistant Terry Childers received the “Never Give Up Award.”

In addition, Sgt. David Kell received the “Rod Bottoms Scholarship Award” of $1,500 for continued training and education.

Sheriff Shepherd congratulates these recipients for their hard work, dedication and loyalty to the Detention Division of the Gila County Sheriff’s Office. He is also proud to note that the four awards given at this year’s Conference were the most given to any Arizona county.

Nobody was hurt in a hit and run accident yesterday morning in the area of Devereaux and Kline.

20 year old David Nieto was arrested for DUI and failure to control his vehicle after an accident early yesterday morning in the area of Penaleno Pass off of Pinal Creek.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 19 year old Ruben Perez on failure to appear warrants for  use of dangerous drugs, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful discharge of a firearm, threats and intimidation and burglary.

24 year old Bobbi Martinez was arrested for harboring a fugitive, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

39 year old Harold Hopkins was arrested on a warrant for false reporting to law enforcement.

Globe Police arrested 57 year old Johnson Yazzie at a traffic stop for allowing an unauthorized minor to drive.

Officers are investigating a burglary at a residence on South First Street.

Obituary


Charles Ray Standlee passed away March 1 in Tucson. He was 66. He is survived by 2 sons, 1 daughter, the boys’ mother; 2 sisters; several grandchildren; his girl friend and 7 children and numerous neices, nephews and cousins..
Family and friends will gather for remembrance at a later date.

GAAC Rummage and Bake Sale


The Globe Active Adult Center is having a big Rummage and Bake Sale this Friday (March 8)  starting at 8:am.

They have furniture, household items, craft stuff, books and more.

If you have gently used items that you’d like to donate, drop them off before Friday  at the Globe Active Adult Center.

Las Lomas Collecting Old Cell Phones and Ink Cartridges for Recycling


Las Lomas Elmentary School is collecting empty ink cartridges and old cell phones for recycling to pay for needed classroom supplies.

From now through April they will receive double points for recycling. They are now also able to recycle small electrical devices like I-pods, cameras, mp3 players and laptops.

You can drop off your items at Las lomas School or at the recycle bins located at both the Claypool and Miami Post Offices.

Obituary


Oscar Owen Ezell  passed away March 1. He is survived by 3 children; 7 grandchildren and more than 22 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Oscar Ezell is Thursday at 10:am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The funeral is at 11:00.

Gila County Fair Committee Meets Tuesday


The Gila County Fair Committee will meet Tuesday (March 12)  at 6:pm at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce.

This month they’ll be discussing advertising and PR.

No injuries were reported in an accident yesterday afternoon on Hill Street.

Last night a cyclist was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign after hitting a pedestrian at the intersection of Old Oak and Hammond. The pedestrian was not injured.

Globe Police arrested 27 year old Saralyn Little for domestic violence and criminal damage.

45 year old Michael Neely was arrested late last night for false reporting to law enforcement after a disturbance at a business on East Ash.

33 year old Joshua Ensworth was arrested for theft yesterday morning at a business on Highway 60.

31 year old Joshua Van Woesik was arrested for burglary and criminal trespassing at a residence on Main Street.

31 year old Martin Cassadore was arrested on a prior charge of threats and intimidation after a disturbance at a business on Jess Hayes Road.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old James Granato for domestic violence/disorderly conduct and assault on a peace officer after a disturbance on Hopi Avenue.

Deputies are investigating a burglary at a residence in Wheatfields and a report of animal cruelty taken in the area of Dripping Springs Road.

Services for Fredrick Gothard will be private.

Miami School Board Meets Tonight at 6:30


The Miami School Board meets tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30pm in the Miami High School Library.

The agenda includes the proposed budget plan for 2013-2014.

There will also be an Executive Session to discuss a request from Walmart concerning its application for a liquor license.

The agenda includes approval of an emergency procurenment to replace a collapsed sewer line at Globe High School.

Globe City Council Retreat


Globe City Council is having a Retreat Meeting on Wednesday from 8:am until 5:pm at Besh Ba Gowah.

The agenda includes a Strategic Planning Session and an Executive Session concerning Arizona Water.

The Retreat Meeting is open to the public.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old David Martindale for domestic violence/disorderly conduct after a disturbance at a residence on Glendale Avenue.

A deputy served two warrants to 26 year old inmate Michael Tarango: a failure to appear warrant for aggravated harassment and domestic violence, and a contempt of court warrant for assault and criminal damage.

22 year old Brianna Rogers was arrested on a Pinal County probation violation warrant for theft.

Deputies are investigating a report of threats taken at a residence on Scott Avenue and criminal damage at a a residence on English Avenue.

Globe Police arrested 40 year old Christopher Goseyun for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

A criminal damage report was taken at a business on East Ash.

Miami Police arrested 56 year old Michael Lopez on a warrant for disorderly conduct.

Supervisors Meet Tuesday


The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday at 10:am.

The agenda includes a request to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for $9,000 to purchase 30 portable breathalyzers and 1,000 mouthpieces for the breathalyzers.

Energy Awareness Talk at GAAC


Richard Rosales from APS will be at the Globe Active Adult Center on Tuesday at 11:am to talk about Energy Awareness.

Cobre Valley Democrats Meet on Tuesday


The Cobre Valley Democrats meet Tuesday at 5:30pm in the Globe Library meeting room.

Water Main Repairs on Tuesday at Bancroft and Santee


Tomorrow (Tuesday) the City of Globe Water Department will continue its upgrades to the water main at the intersection of North Bancroft and West Santee Street.

The repair will take place between 6:am and 4:pm. Water will be turned off on Bancroft Street at 8:am until about 3:pm.

The intersection will be closed to traffic during this time.

Arizona's Mineral Potential Ranks High in Survey of Best and Worst Places for Mining


The  new Frazer Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies ranks Arizona 15th in the world in its assessment of our current mineral potential. That’s up from 31st last year.

Three US states are in the top 10 jurisdictions in terms of public policy factors that encourage or discourage investment. They are Wyoming, Nevada and Utah.

The Arizona Geology blog reports that Arizona ranks 28th out of 96 jurisdictions worldwide in how mining companies rank “public policy factors such as taxation and regulation affect exploration investment."

Arizona is 40th in “regulatory duplication and inconsistencies.”

The driver in a one vehicle rollover accident in Six Shooter Canyon Saturday morning was flown to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital.

No injuries were reported in a hit and run accident yesterday on Quartz Loop

Nobody was hurt in an accident Saturday morning on Roberts Drive. One driver was cited for failure to control speed to avoid an accident.

There was a two vehicle accident Friday evening near Santee Street and Highway 60.

Miami Police arrested 49 year old Ken Gameros for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

23 year old Mathew Anderson was arrested by Miami PD on a contempt of court warrant for DUI.

Two people were arrested early yesterday morning after a domestic disturbance on Euclid. 33 year old Tyrone Lewis and 31 year old Mariete Lewis were both charged with disorderly conduct/domestic violence.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Bobby Wilson for driving with a suspended license.

47 year old Manuel Flores was arrested on a child support warrant.

On Saturday the  Sheriff’s Office arrested two people after a fight at the Gila County Fairgrounds. 24 year old Jared Badilla of Globe was charged with assault and disorderly conduct. 29 year old Nathaniel Badilla of Mesa was charged with disorderly conduct.

45 year old Anthony Curtis was arrested Friday on  a probation violation warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.

55 year old Virginia Martinez was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Deputies are investigating burglary and criminal damage at a residence on Vertical Heights; criminal damage at a residence on New Street; and criminal damage to a vehicle in Ice House Canyon.

Yesterday Globe Police cited and released 24 year old Coty Fuller in connection with a theft case.

32 year old Erica Robles was arrested on Saturday for warrants for attempted forgery and aggravated assault/domestic violence.

On Friday, 31 year old Kenneth Wallen of California was arrested at the Subway in the Wild West Center for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

Officers are investigating a domestic incident on Hackney Avenue and a burglary on Agave

Florence Police arrested 28 year old Tony Philpot of Globe  on a child support warrant.

Obituary


Argyle Georgia McGowan of Miami passed away Friday at Heritage Heath Care Center. She was 83. She is survived by her daughter Betty Minefee of Miami; her son Larry McGowan of Globe; and her sister.
The funeral for Argyle Georgia McGowan is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10:am at Miles Funeral Services Globe.

Donors Respond to PMLL Equipment Loss


Globe Miami Community News on Facebook reports that Freeport McMoRan has donated $5,000 to Pinal Mountain Little League to replace equipment burned in a recent fire.

Donations have come in from around the state after a Valley TV station reported the loss.

Canyon Fire Department put out a brush fire last night on Pipeline.

There was a two vehicle collision just before 6:pm yesterday  at Hill and Maple Street. A report was taken by Globe PD and is pending further investigation.

Last night 22 year old inmate Christopher Reynolds received an additional charge of shoplifting.

A fraud report was taken yesterday morning at a business on Highway 60.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office cited and released 49 year old Darrell White for driving with no valid license, no registration and no insurance.


Obituary


Benjamin Allen Stevens passed away February 23 at his home in Globe. He was 54. He is survived by his wife Catherine; his son Jeff; his daughter Julie; his mother Sara Stevens; and 7 brothers and sisters.
A Memorial Service for Benjamin Stevens will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:pm at Lamont Mortuary.
