American Legion Auxiliary Spaghetti Dinner

Low Cost Rabies Clinic on Saturday


A Low Cost Rabies Clinic will be held Saturday from 1:30 to 3:pm at the Animal Shelter.

The cost of the rabies shot is $10.00 plus the cost of a license. That’s $15.00 for an unaltered animal and $7 for a spayed or neutered animal..

Gila County Spelling Bee on Friday


The Gila County Spelling Bee will take place on Friday at 1:pm in the Payson High School auditorium.

The Gila County Spelling Bee is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Gila County Fair Committee Meets Tuesday


The Gila County Fair Committee will meet Tuesday (February 12)  at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce.

The open meeting begins at 7:pm following an executive session at 6.

The Committee will discuss fair entertainment, special events and facilities improvements.

Supervisor Pastor to Hold Community Meeting


Gila County Supervisor Mike Pastor will hold a community meeting on Monday, February 25.

United Fund Annual Meeting

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a hit and run accident yesterday at the Hunter Drive Circle K. The accident is under investigation by Globe PD

Globe Police arrested 29 year old Erik Gonzales for burglary.

Officers responded to a report of an assault at Globe High School. Two juveniles were referred to juvenile authorities for disorderly conduct.

A harassment report was taken at a business on East Ash Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38 year old James Gillum for a child support warrant and for driving with a suspended license.

25 year old Eli Miller was cited and released for DUI.

A Gila County School Resource Deputy took a report of aggravated assault on a school teacher.

Deputies are investigating a burglary at Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park; the theft of a license plate registration at Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park; and criminal damage to a fence at the Juvenile Detention Facility.

Bashas' Customers Targeted by Cyber Thieves


An international fraud investigation into cyber theft includes stolen credit card information from Arizona Bashas’ customers.

KVOA-TV reports that the thieves apparently used ‘malware’ never seen before. They used the software  to duplicate credit card numbers and then use the numbers to buy prepaid cards.

The FBI says it is searching for three suspects.

Bashas’ says that the malware has been contained. But the grocery chain urges its customers to closely monitor their debit and credit card transactions and report any unusual activity.

Applications Being Accepted for CVIT Governing Board


Gila County School Superintendent Linda O’Dell invites Globe School District residents to apply for appointment to the Cobre Valley Institute of Technology  governing board.

The position of Globe District representative to the CVIT board is open due to the resignation of Gary Grounds.

Potential board members must submit a letter of interest, application and letters of recommendation. They must also participate in an interview.

Police Log


Miami Police charged a Safford man with DUI and criminal damage after his car struck a light pole. There were no injuries.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested three people yesterday at a traffic stop. 18 year old Brandon Twohey, 18 year old Ruben DeMario and 28 year old Brian Allphin were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Three people were arrested after a report of suspicious activity at Sunrise Mobile Home Park. 
30 year old Chad Smith was arrested on a Globe warrant for failure to appear for public order crimes, and a Texas warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
29 year old Erik Gonzales was charged with possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia, and felony hindering.
27 year old Pearl Gonzales was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are investigating an attempted vehicle theft at the Claypool Safeway.

A School Resource deputy took a report for an assault that occurred on January 24 at Miami High School.

53 year old Jody Herrera turned herself in to Globe Police for a child support warrant. She paid bond and was released.

Obituary


Floyd Stiles passed away Saturday at his home in Wheatfields. He was 88.
Visitation for Floyd Stiles will be Friday from 6 to 8:pm at Lamont Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 11:am at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa.

Miami Council Work Session on Wednesday

Globe School Board Meets Wednesday


The Globe School Board meets Wednesday at 6:00 in the High Desert Middle School auditorium.

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Jess Hayes Road.

Globe Police arrested 21 year old Manuel Nieto for domestic disorderly conduct after a disturbance  at Globe Mobile Home Park. A juvenile was also referred to juvenile probation.

Officers are investigating  criminal damage at the Globe Community Center.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old David Scott on a failure to appear warrant for unlawful flight from law enforcement, DUI, disorderly conduct and assault, and a child support warrant.
Miami Police are investigating attempted burgalries at two residences and one business.
Miami Officers are also investigating an attempted suicide. Charges may be pending.

Raymundo Bustamante, Jr. passed away Saturday. He was 65.

Supervisors Meet Today


The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets today (Tuesday) at 10:am.

They will discuss and prioritize road improvement projects on roads within federal lands. They will authorize the Public Works Department to submit one or more projects to the Central Federal Lands Highway Division. They will also prioritize future projects under the Secure Rural Schools  and Community Self Determination Act.

The Supervisors will  vote on an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Town of Miami to disburse up to $25,000 for the Cobre Valley Community Transit’s Dial-a-Ride Program.

Public Hearings on Area Plan on Aging


Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens will host public hearings on February 13 and 14  to present the Area Plan for 2014 -2017.

This is the planning document which identifies priority needs programs, goals, objectives and activities for people 60 and older in Pinal and Gila counties.

The meeting on Wednesday, February 13 will be at the PG CSC’s main office in Casa Grande at 9:am.

Another meeting will be held on Thursday, February 14 at 10:30am in the Hayden Council Chambers.

Police Log


Local agencies responded to a structure fire last night at Wheatfields Road in Pinto Creek Mobile Home Park. The residence was unoccupied and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The driver  in an ATV accident yesterday   off of Russell Road was flown to a Valley hospital.

Globe EMS were dispatched to a residence on Vista Circle Saturday night. A woman with possible head injuries was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Miami Police arrested 38 year old Jennifer Curtis for assault/domestic violence, criminal damage and disorderly conduct. Curtis also had an outstanding Pima County warrant for probation violation on a charge of stolen property; and a Gila County contempt of court warrant on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, false reporting to law enforcement and shoplifting.

43 year old Daniel Flores was arrested for aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and threats and intimidation.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested four juveniles and 18 year old Candice Haines on drug related charges. Haines was charged with administration of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, involving minors in drug activity, and endangerment.

71 year old inmate Hines Nosie was served a warrant for extreme DUI.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 50 year old William Stidham for driving with a suspended license.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating criminal damage to a window at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park.

On Saturday Globe Police arrested 18 year old Ruben DeMario  for assault after an incident on First Avenue.

20 year old Tyler Rehn was arrested in connection with a theft reported on Friday.

43 year old Martin Cassadore was arrested for criminal damage, and threats and intimidation.

28 year old Coran Curtis was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for attempted shoplifting.

21 year old Zachariah Cole was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Officers are investigating a theft at a residence on East Amarilla.

Obituaries


Lillian Carrillo passed away Thursday at the age of 83.
The funeral for Lillian Carillo is this morning (Monday) at 11:00 at Holy Angels Catholic Church.

Former Globe resident Thomas J. Gilliland passed away January 30 at  his home in Oregon. He was 85. He is survived by his wife Mody; his daughter; and 6 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Thomas Gilliland will be held Thursday at 10:am at Trinity Baptist Church.

35 year old Gabriel Cabrera was arrested last night for driving with a suspended license.

Globe Police arrested 31 year old Maria Robles on a failure to appear warrant for issuing a bad check.

36 year old Amanda Wallace was arrested  on a child support warrant.

19 year old Evan Volante was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for shoplifting.

43 year old Holly Pitman was arrested on a contempt of court warrant for possession and use of drug paraphernalia.

A criminal damage report was taken at a business on Highway 60.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Jesse Flores for second degree burglary.

A criminal damage report was taken at a residence on Weaver Circle.
